To access your Library Account, your library card number is your username and password. Once into your account, you may view your checked out materials and renew materials.
You may also reserve materials online. Just search our catalog, locate the item and enter your library card number for your username and password. This can also be done through our Catalog Computers in the library!
What is my login? Username/Password?
For all online library services, your username and password are your library card number. Enter your library card number in both fields.
Why is my login not working?
All library accounts expire annually. It is possible your card has expired. You may update your card by calling or stopping in at the library. Logins also will not work if your fines are too high.
How can I login to the public computers?
If you have a library card, the user-ID is your library card number and leave the password field blank/empty.
If you do not have a library card, see the front desk and they will issue a guest pass. You will enter all eight numbers into the user-ID and leave the password field blank/empty. The guest pass is good for one-time use. You may regularly use the computer on a guest basis. Computer sessions login for 1 hour and you may ask the front desk for an extension. Please request extensions before your time runs out. Extensions are issued based on need and availability.
How can I replace my lost library card?
Come into the library and the staff can issue you a new one. Replacement cards are $2.00 each.

What types of donations do you accept?
We accept a wide variety of materials for children, teens, and adults such as: hardcover and paperback books, DVDs, CDs, and Audiobooks. We do not accept textbooks, old encyclopedia sets, or magazines. If you have a small amount of donations you may bring them through the front door. If you have a carful, please go around back and ring the bell.
Do you sell used books, when are your
We have a collection of materials for sale during library hours on the shelves behind the coffee machine as well as on a paperback spinner and cart near the Archives Room. Our book sales are listed on the Friends Page.
Do you have tax forms?
The IRS is reducing the number of forms that they are printing and sending to the library. If we do not have what you need, we can get it from the internet. There is no charge for tax forms. When we start carrying fax forms is dependent on when the government sends them to us. We keep the tax forms out and available for the public until the middle of April. The government is no longer printing instructions forms and is not sending them to the library. Instructions are available on the internet but they are burdensome to print in their entirety. We can print individual tax table pages. The government is recommending you contact them for forms and instructions and they will mail them to you. Do you have Wifi?
Yes and there is no passcode. The Wifi may or may not work from various locations outside of the building.
Can I renew…over the phone / online / in
Yes! All we need is your name and the title to renew over the phone or in person at the library (you do not need to bring the item with you). You may also renew online. Interlibrary Loans need to be renewed on MyMel and Ransom items can be renewed by logging into the catalog.
Can I volunteer at the library?
Our Friends of the Library are always looking for volunteers to help with the setup and take down of the book sales. Please see the Friends page for more information on dates and calling Char to volunteer.
How can I register for library events?
You may come in, call, or email with your name and phone number to register for events.
How can I know if you are closed?
Please check our holiday closing schedule. For weather related closing check with News Channel 3 or our Facebook page.
Why am I not getting library email
For interlibrary loan (MEL) emails, the notices do not necessarily say “Ransom Library.” The email may be sent from another library. Please watch carefully for all subject lines indicating Library or MeL Notice. Please also check your spam box. For Ransom Library notices, please contact the library to ensure we have your most current email listed and spelled correctly. You may also submit a Contact Us form and we can update your account.

I lost a book. What do I need to do?
If you have lost or damaged library materials, contact us at (269) 685-8024 or come to the Circulation desk at the library.
Can I access old versions of the local newspapers like Union Enterprise?
Yes, we have digitized versions of the Union Enterprise on patron computers. Come into the library to search them. They are not available online to be accessed from your home. (We do not have the Kalamazoo Gazette.)
Can I reserve a book that is on the
Yes! Find a book using the search bar on the library home page. Open the full record and click on “Hold Item” (login if you have not done so) and confirm the hold request. This notifies staff to retrieve it. You will receive an email or phone notification that the book is ready for pick up. It usually takes at least 24 hours to complete a hold.
What is Interlibrary loan?
If we do not have a book or other item which you need, we can contact anther library who owns it and get you a copy. For books and videos, we will borrow a copy and get it to you.
How do I request a book or video through
Go mel.org and search for the title or author. When you have found the item you need, click on “Get This Item From Mel.” You will need your library card number to request a copy. You can typically have a book in 5-10 days.
Can I renew my Interlibrary Loan books?
Most books are renewable once. To renew your Interlibrary loan book, go to MyMel, login to your account and click on Checkouts. Click to renew the book. A updated due date will appear. If your account will not allow you to renew your item, please contact us at (269) 685-8024.
When can I expect my Interlibrary loan
items to arrive?
Books generally take 5-10 days; it depends on what library we get the item from and how many libraries own it. We will notify you when your item arrives. If you haven’t heard anything from us after about a week, contact us and we’ll be able to give you more specific information.
I’m having problems with my online
Interlibrary Loan account. Who can help me?
The Interlibrary loan system is connected to your Ransom Library Card. If you cannot login, contact us. To change information like address, email, etc. please contact us. Changing contact information in MyMel is not permanent and will not update your account correctly.
How do I know when my Interlibrary loan
item is ready for pickup?
We will send you an email or phone call when your item arrives and is ready for pickup. If you haven’t received an email and it has been over a week since you made your request check the status of the request by logging into your account at MyMel. If your item says Mel Received, the item is ready to be picked up. You can also contact us at (269) 685-8024.
