MELCAT (Interlibrary Loan)

Through MELCAT (Michigan Electronic Library Catalog), patrons canrequest materials from other libraries that are not available at Ransom. MEL allows patrons access to 170+ statewide libraries. The Mel Catalog (MelCat), includes most items held in participating libraries including millions of books, CDs, DVDs and other materials. Once ordered patrons may pick up and return those items at Ransom.

Visit www.mel.org today and browse MelCat. Or log in to your MEL Account via MyMel to check for due dates, renew your MEL materials, and see the status of your requests. Just select your library (Ransom District Library) from the drop down list and login with your name and library card number.

If you are unable to locate the title you need or do not have access to a computer to order books through MEL, please contact us at 685-8024. In the case of newly released titles, we may be able to purchase the title to add to the Library's collection.

MEL NEW FEATURES:

We are excited to announce the many new and improved features on the MEL website. The homepage has been redesigned to be better organized and more intuitive, so you can find the information you need quickly. Navigation has been streamlined as it has been trimmed down and made more straightforward to get you where you need to go quickly. The site has improved search functions that will help you find what you need fast. Try it today!

More than 400 MeLCat member libraries and their staff have made it possible to fill more than 7 million requests for Michigan residents since 2005.

Since January 2005, MeLCat has:

  • grown from the 12 libraries that went live on launch day to over 400 libraries using 23 different automation systems (plus 9 unautomated libraries)
  • filled over 7 million requests for Michigan residents
  • built a database with over 47 million holdings
  • facilitated close to 60,000 visiting patron loans
  • implemented NCIP functionality (home library records and the MeLCat system operating in real time together) for over 65 libraries. (Ransom Library has NCIP!)

The success of MeLCat is a testament to the power of all types and sizes of libraries working together to build a service that benefits Michigan residents statewide.  A hearty congratulations to all MeLCat member libraries!
