1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a tracking system that encourages you to read 1,000 books with your child before he or she enters school.  Ransom Library is participating in this program with other Allegan County libraries, thanks to a generous grant from the Allegan County United Way and Volunteer Center.

Don't let the big number intimidate you - if you read 2 books to your child at bedtime every night, you will complete 730 books in the next year alone!  If this sounds daunting, then you could aim for one book per day for three years or even ten books per week for two years.  The words your child will be exposed to by listening to these thousand books will drastically improve their vocabulary, which primes them for reading success once they start school.  Pick up your packet today! OR create an account on the RDL page at READsquared.com and track your child's progress online.

If you have questions about this program or need suggestions for good books to read to your preschool child, ask staff for assistance.
