TRANSFORM YOURSELF: READ!
June 16-August 1
This summer is all about change at your library! Read some books that will
change your mind; attend a workshop to alter your shoes or t-shirts;
participate in a community-wide push to collectively read 100,000 pages; try
some new foods. There's lots of choices for you, the library is
air-conditioned, and our programs are FREE!!!
Sign up for the Summer Reading Program!
Registration begins Monday, June 16. If you can't make it, come another day!
You can sign up anytime!
The Teen Summer Reading program requires that you commit to a reading goal and
then try to complete that number of pages by August 1. Barnes and Noble Gift
cards in the amount of $30, $20 and $10 will be given to the 3 people with the
most pages read. Other prizes will be given away at the finale on Saturday,
August 2 from 6-11p.m.
PERSONAL READING GOALS
Select a level of personal commitment.
You will be asked to choose one when you sign up.
Tall: 400 pages (approximately 2 books)
Grande: 800 pages (approximately 4 books)
Venti: 1200 pages (approximately 6 books)
When you meet your goal, you'll earn a paperback book. (Limit 1 book per
participant for the summer.)
COMMUNITY READING GOALS
Our community goal this summer is to top 100,000 pages. (That may sound like a
lot, but do the math: If 100 kids read 1000 pages each, thats it! And 1000
pages is only about 5 average-size books!)
If you achieve this goal, Erin, the Youth Services Librarian, will do something
CRAZY to honor you! You get to vote on what she does when you sign up for the
reading program.
When you achieve your personal goal, keep reading toward those Barnes and Noble
gift cards and the community reading goal!

green. Local artist Pat Davis will join us today to demonstrate how to make
recycled art.

Change Your Tune
Bring your MP3 player to the library. Be prepared to play 3-5 songs you think
nobody else will know. We'll listen to each other's selections, give prizes to
people who bring unknown tunes, and jot down names of new songs we like. Go
home with a line on some great new songs!
Fri. July 11, 2-3:30 p.m.
Change Your Shoes
Bring a pair of canvas shoes or flip-flops and decorate them! Fabric paint,
glittery stuff, and a variety of yarn and embroidery floss will be on hand so
you can get creative. We will also have new shoelaces, beads and buttons if you
just want to jazz up your tennies!
Tue. July 15, 2-4 p.m.
Change Your Taste
Each region of the world has its' own cuisine, and a lot of interesting food is
available right here in West Michigan! Spend the afternoon tasting the flavors
of other cultures. Indian, Asian, Mexican and Middle Eastern foods will be
included.
Tue. July 22, 2-3 p.m.
The Big Barbie Makeover
By the time you're a teen, you've generally outgrown playing with Barbies. But
have you outgrown giving them makeovers? (Remember the Barbie in Toy Story II?)
Bring an old doll and get creative!
Guys: You can punk Ken or G.I. Joe out instead!
Tue. July 29, 2-3:30 p.m.
Change Your Room
This activity will focus on giving your room a makeover. We'll have suggestions
for
organization, tips on sprucing up your space on the cheap, and we'll make 1-3
cool projects, time permitting.
